ENGLISH
Hello there. My name is Samantha Zinn Sáenz and I’m an 18-year-old student and self-taught freelance graphic designer from Barcelona. Born in China but raised in Barcelona by a Spanish mother and German father, cultural diversity has always been important to me. Coming from a multicultural background, I'm in love with travel and language. I spoke Spanish in my early years which eventually it lead to lose my Chinese accent. In 1996, I attended elementary school and my middle years at a private bilingual school in my area. At the age of 12, my family and I moved from Barcelona to the beautiful city of Warsaw, Poland. This move had a great impact in my life including several adjustment changes to the environment and the people around me. In 2008, I began my high school years at a private American school for 5 years thus my English skills improved ever since. Throughout this period of time, I developed a unique character that differed from my classmates. One of the best characteristics about me is that I love to learn languages – I speak native Spanish, fluent English and intermediate Polish. I could say that I'm an intelligent and ambitious person who dreams about future plans as any young adult would. My desire to become a professional graphic designer is a great motivational skill I use to accomplish my goals. Friends and family describe me as a friendly but shy and stubborn person who will never let go off things. After 17 years living in Europe, my world gave a big spin when I moved with my family and younger sister to the United States in June 2013. I moved back to Barcelona by the end of January with my younger sister and am currently living here ever since. What I'm into these days: long night walks, listening to pop and EDM / techno / reggae music, playing with Photoshop, drinking ice Caramel Macchiato and creating pretty things.
BLOGGING
Blogging is the reason my interested in graphic design grew. I started to write my own blog in March 2011, 2 months after my 15th birthday. My old blog “Road of Hidden Words” featured travel, music, food and daily life posts as well as some of my unique poems. Although readers responded well with good feedback, I had to put blogging to an end due to school and personal life. During my blogging days I met nice people with similar interests to me, discovered tons of amazing blogs and later on, I found Dana Fox from The Wonder Forest, my inspiration. She is the person who brought up my creative side of me. I know it’s ridiculous but, I always thought that these kind of things are not for women. Design and code? Most women can’t handle their control around technology and don’t feel like engaging with web language. I have patience, a lot. Every afternoon, you will find me sitting in front of my laptop learning code, working in Photoshop and finding inspiration in the internet while eating chocolate chip cookies and play my favorite 1-hour remix to keep me up and motivated. For the past 3 years, I taught myself creative skills as my base. I learned basic web language and with time I developed my own design style. In August 2013, 2 years later, I took my passion for design seriously rather than doing it just for fun and started to think about my future plans as a graphic designer. The next couple of months, I continued to work on different projects including blog design, website design, graphic design and digital photography. My portfolio is still in process, however, I am currently working with a client on a blog design. Most of my projects to date are inspired by the places I lived: Barcelona, Warsaw and Miami.
